Another Year, Another Hello.

2017, A New Page!

2016 was a difficult year for me. I was constantly in and out of the hospitals, constantly being hooked to IVs, and had countless of medications pump into my systems. I was hospitalized for asthma in January, had an endoscopy and colonoscopy by July, and then food poisoning by October. Phew!

But truth to be told.. I was always been a sickly kid. I would say a quarter of my life is spend sitting down in hospitals taking care of myself, my parents, my grandparents, being hospitalized, then stuck in traffic of going back and fro to hospitals and home (mind you, Jakarta’s traffic is I-N-S-A-N-E)

Not to mention the diseases that actually runs in the family.. as 2016 was ending, I started to feel scared. I’m scared that all of those diet-related diseases that already runs in my family would finally find its way to my body, somehow, if I don’t get my crap together and change my lifestyle. I love food. Food is my source of joy, source of excitement but sadly… the choices I made with them maybe doing my body more damage than good.

By mid January, I decided that this year would be the beginning of a healthier lifestyle. I want to be better. I want to explore what my body is capable of, fixing my relationship with food. This is not about a journey of weight loss. I care about them, yes, and of course I would want to slim down. But I know, focusing on the vanity of my body would only lead me into a spiral of emotional yo-yo I do not need. I need a change that last. I need to focus on being better in being active, taking whatever method that makes my heart sing and I need to fall in love with food that nourishes me. My goal, for this year, is simple. To Not Get Hospitalized Again.

I’m starting with something super simple, a snack. I get peckish a lot in the middle of the day and this is my way of not resolving to buying ice creams. There were moments in my life where I just kind of give up in the middle of the day and run to the nearest convenient store to get an ice cream, as an escape from a hectic day.  I mean, there’s nothing wrong with that, but do it three times a week and I’m a breath away from diabetes. It is obvious that self control is not my strong suit.

So this Strawberry and Banana Ice Pop is basically a frozen smoothies. As simple as that. I’m lucky enough to have a shared refrigerator with a freezer at work, so I hauled this to work, for that afternoon stumble where the heat (both from work and life) becomes unbearable.

Strawberry and Banana Ice Pop

  • 1 Banana
  • 70 gr Strawberries, sliced (about 1/2 a cup)
  • 125 gr (1/2 cup) Yogurt
  • 250 ml (1 cup) of Almond Milk
  • 1 tsp of honey (optional)

Put all the ingredients in a blender and blitz them into wonderful smoothie. Watch the liquid turns a beautiful pale pink colour. Swoon. Pour into the Ice Pop Mould, then pop into the freezer overnight.

Indonesian Through and Through

29 Jan

If you want to enjoy indonesian cuisine without the joy of street stalls ( which sometimes dirty and crowded and noisy) Sate Khas Senayan is a place to go. The food is good with cool, air-con ambience plus wooden furniture that high light Indonesian traditional culture such as wayang, etc.

‘Have dinner like a beggar’ mindset was long forgotten last night as we dived and enjoy those velvety coconut milk, that rightfully mine carbs of white rice, lamb, chicken, tofu, and oh so on!

From top to bottom, sate khas senayan logo, some crackers to nibble on whilst waiting for our main course, Sate Buntel Kambing ( lamb meat and fat sausage satay- or something like that) Sate Ayam saus Blora ( chicken satay with spicy peanut sauce). Lontong Cap Gomeh, Nasi Liwet and Nasi Bogana.

Dad actually had Es Podeng, but he dig into it with such speed I did not manage to take the pic first.

Have a nice weekend, fellas!

Well, Hello There

Spice up your fish and chips

16 Jul

We all know how good fish and co’s fish and chips is, aight? Here’s what you can do to make it even better! Or, to simply have – a little outside of the usual-fish-and-chips-box experience. Ask for extra chilli sauce and the lemon butter sauce ( the white sauce they sprinkle on top of ur fried fish). Pour the sauce over the fish and spread the chilli sauce. Plus, u can always exchange the french fries with Paella rice. That yellow rice IS yummy. I’m telling you. It might seems awkward to have raisins and paprikas in your rice, but raisins give you sweet hints and paprika give the right portions of heat and tangy. Enjoy!
